TO BE ON TIME IS TO BE LATE!

1/24/2012:

Those of you who have been around a while know that we place a great deal of emphasis on the importance of everyone making our training sessions. We certainly recognize that most of us have jobs and other responsibilities that prevent us from making all the meetings, however, it just never ceases to amaze us that the people who miss the most meetings are the same people who need the training the most. This is generally followed by:

1) why don’t I get more game assignments, or

2) why don’t I get better assignments.

Candidly folks, we need to look at training as an opportunity to get better. When you do attend, you need to participate and not just watch the clock. Our association is getting bigger and we have lots of people who want games. If you are a marginal umpire (and I suspect you know who you are), you should be aware that you are not grandfathered in! If we have newbies who prove that they are a better umpire, rest assured that they will get assignments. Those assignments have to come from the umpires who have reached a plateau with no desire to get any better.

Everyone needs to look at training as an opportunity and do their best to attend and participate in as many sessions as possible!

2012 ASA Rule Books are here and available to all DSUA Umpires who have satisfied the dues requirement. We have to pay for these rule books, therefore can not let them out to anyone who has not paid their dues.
